This summer I committed to going with the flow (as if any of us really have a choice). I scaled back on work hours, tried to craft a semi schedule on the days we have swim lessons or karate and have presented a bunch of different ideas to the kids on how to spend their time but largely have let things just happen... and somehow it's mostly working out.
Story Circles is happening and it' another amazing group of people connecting and expressing and engaging with the circle in all ways creative and other... We are making it to the few things we have committed to and all of the space in between is just filling up quite easily, sweetly, perfectly for summer.
Last Friday I got a text from a good friend inviting us to Martha's Vineyard. When? How about then...? OK. We threw a few things in a bag and hopped in the car to head 2.5 hours to the ferry.
Saturday, after a sweet slow morning on the screened in porch chatting and sketching, we explored Mememsha harbor then spent the afternoon at Lucy Vincent beach.
Between sitting, and a little splashing, and playing with the kids I grabbed a sand rake and pretended I was Andres Amador and made some small beach mandalas and watched them get washed out to sea.
The time scraping sand was awesome enough but suddenly the girls were running all around me with balls of clay they had found and my friend was breaking a hard chunk of it up in salt water reconstituting it. We all played with a ball. Kneading and rolling and enjoying it together. Such a magical gift.
I'm learning again and again when you're open and really release and just go with the flow this magic can happen all around you.
