Damn Circle... Oops

casiacoggerstorycircles

Yesterday was the first day for summer Story Circles. I posted to the group and here on the blog as well an invitation to get outside, to observe and create a circle around you. Not a big deal right? Something I do on such a regular basis it shouldn't have created much of a challenge...

But...

It was a busy day. Lots to do. Picking strawberries before the fields close for the year. Swim training and house cleaning and lunch making and kid playing and... Somehow it was mid afternoon and I had yet to make any circles myself.

We were heading out for the evening shortly and I had a small window to get out to my studio to finish a video and... Make the damn circle. Oops, damn circle?

I walked to the studio to quickly film. I circled the house looking for something to gather to make my circle. I gave the kids underdogs on the swings as I paced. Nothing in the yard appealed. Damn circle...

I settled on some little petunia heads finally and plucked their heads. Wanting to make it something fantastic I played with trying different colors in Fibonacci numbers... Wasn't working. Damn circle...

I arranged the flowers on our flagstone path but they didn't lay right. I stood beside them to snap some photographic evidence anyway. My toenails were overgrown and the polish chipped. I moved to the grass where the little blooms seemed to be gobbled up. I tried snapping the photo anyway. Seconds later my daughter walked up with her and ball, "can you throw this to me?" Damn circle...

Then I stopped. I remembered the purpose of this act. It was to slow down, connect, initiate the story circle session, welcome summer. It wasn't about it being a huge, fantastic, finished piece. It wasn't about inducing stress or exasperation. It was about simple connection. A sacred act. It was about the process.

Suddenly my toes were fine, the blossoms perfect, the circle sweet...

I stopped looking at the finished product and tuned in to the sacred act if only for a few seconds.
