I Stalk Barns

I stalk barns. Really, I do. There are three large tobacco barns about a mile from my house that I love. I drive by them, I run by them, I ride by them. I admire them from afar. I swore for the first two years of our life here in CT that these barns were my best friends back East(how's that for crazy).

I love to drive by these big weathered structures taking the long way home. Trying to say hello at least weekly. I snap photos from my car, my bike, as I run by...

Last week when I started my second piece in Alena Hennessy's class at Squam Art Workshops I started another what one of my instructors at the League would call "a hope and a prayer painting...". I didn't know what I was going to paint or how but I sure liked some opaque green ink and some hot pink paint...

One shape led to another, I found some birch bark in the woods and I got to work... My innate love of barns shone through...

This, this is my voice as a painter that makes me smile. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I welcome it back...
